Jungle path to Playa Chiquita beach

Just 6 km south of Puerto Viejo in between Playa Cocles and Punta Uva lies the town of Playa Chiquita. The small town has become a very popular residential area with expats from all over the world, residing here. The town is quieter than Puerto Viejo and has a good variety of hotels and vacation rentals.

The beach is very popular for families with young children as the reef offers natural pools giving protection from the currents, making the beach ideal for children to swim at on calm days. The natural pools also offer great snorkeling and fishing. The trail to get down to the beach is across from the Shawanda lodge, a small thatched roof signals the entrance where you can take a jungle path down towards the beach.

If you are staying in Puerto Viejo we recommend renting a bicycle or a scooter and heading south. Playa Chiquita works as a great pit stop if you are way to Punta Uva or Manzanillo where you can find refreshments from one of the two grocery stores or cafes.
