   Hello -
   what is the cost and does it go daily from:

   1)San Jose to Limon

   2) San Jose to Puerto Viejo

   3)San JOse direct to Sixaola

   4) Puerto Viejo to Siaxola

   5) also do you have any routes that go into David from Golfito or surrounding.

   Hi Alex: Yes, the buses run daily for 1-4 above - check the schedules above. Direct routes are marked with an asterisk *. Prices are very inexpensive. For example: the direct buses from San José to Puerto Viejo is currently around 4,500 colones or about $8. The trip is usually about 4.5 hrs and there’s a 20 minute rest and refreshment stop in Limón. There’s no absolute direct bus from San José to Sixaola, they swing by Puerto Viejo first - but it’s the same bus all the way through.

   There’s express buses from San José to Golfito (TRACOPA company), and from San José to Paso Canoas at the Panama border. There’s buses that depart hourly from Golfito to Paso Canoas, the trip is 2 hrs and costs about $1.

   We’re Caribbean coast specialists so it would be a good idea to call the bus companies to double check the schedules for the Golfito area.

   If you are planning on returning from Panama to Costa Rica, the immigration officials will want to see proof of your exit back out of Costa Rica within your 90 day tourist visa timeframe - sometimes people are forced to buy bus tickets on the spot in order to get back into Costa Rica…

   Hello,

   Do you know if there are buses that run from Puerto Viejo/Limon area on Sundays? Also, during Semana Santa, do the buses begin running again on Saturday or Sunday, or not again until Monday?

   Hi Sara,
   The local Mepe bus schedule will not change over the weekends or holiday.
   They run all day Sat, Sun, and over Semana Santa. We do recommend that you purchase your tickets in advance (due to the increased traffic) to assure you have seating.

   Hello!
   I will be in Costa Rica very soon, and will be traveling from San Jose to Sixaola. I will have to wait for the bus for about 3 hours… would you suggest I hang around the airport, or is the Carribean bus station safe enough? Also, do you think it will be safe to put my luggage underneath the bus for the trip?

   Hi Molly: The Caribbean station is as safe as the airport is - there’s security there, local food vendors and gift shops. Your luggage should be fine under the bus, just be sure to retrieve it asap at your destination. Buen viaje!
